GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Soloist - Gear Review

It'll be hard to find a better solo cooking system with this many features. The GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Soloist Cooking system is an ultralight setup that is perfect for the backpacker that wants something light, but doesn't want to skip out on a functional cooking system. I have really found myself trying to go with a lighter backpack setup. Part of the weight reduction happened with my cooking setup. I am glad that I found the Pinnacle Soloist. The Pinnacle Soloist allows you to cut down on the weight of a heavy pot system, but not lose functionality.

One of the things that I've struggled with the most in reading about titanium options and other ultralight setups is how limited you can get with what it offers. Like I shared in my post about cooking in the backcountry, not everyone wants to just boil water and eat food by rehydrating it with hot water. The Pinnacle Soloist is very similar to the Snow Peak Trek 900 setup (6.2 oz), but I feel like the Pinnacle (10.9 oz) allows for a little more convenience by doubling the weight. One thing that I do wish this setup included was some kind of a pan, but I feel like any type of minimalist setup just requires you to be a little more innovative when planning meals.

The Pinnacle Soloist has some really great features to it. Here are my favorite features of this backcountry cooking setup:
  • - All in one system - Everything packs into itself and is very compact
  • - 1.1 liter hard anodized aluminum pot
  • - 14 fl oz poly plastic bowl
  • - Built in handle on the pot - No more worry about forgetting or losing your pot gripper
  • - Really nice teflon coating in the pot
  • - Over really great functionality

I am really impressed with GSI and the products that they have put onto the market. The GSI Pinnacle is the perfect setup for the backpacker looking to cut down on weight but not sacrifice comfort and convenience when cooking a nice meal.

My soloist on my most recent trip in Harris Wash of the Escalante Canyons.

Funny, I was just looking to buy myself a birthday gift and was searching for a new cook set.
Nice review on a highly rated setup at a great price. I think I may be sold.
Thanks again for the info.
On a side note, I purchased a Rab Viper Jacket. I will let you know how it comes along!
