Osprey Atmos 65 Backpack - Gear Review
For several years now, Osprey has been the go to pack for me. Osprey hands down makes some of the best packs on the market. They are simple, comfortable, innovative, and are incredibly practical in the backcountry. I've owned my Atmos 65 for two years, and it has been on many trips, and has yet to leave a bad impression on me.
Osprey has done some really great design features with the Atmos series of packs. For me some of the biggest advantages that are found are in the fit of the pack. A backpack must fit properly, and be comfortable. If I am going to carry 35-60 pounds of gear on my back, I know that I am going to need to be comfortable. One of the biggest design features is the Airspeed suspension ventilated mesh back panel. I love this because it is so nice to not have a really sweaty back while hiking. Although the pack is pulled away from your back slightly with this, it in no way decreases performance or comfort. The ability to make fine tuned adjustments to the shoulder straps and the hip belt on the fly are really important to this packs design. This is part of what makes this pack series so versatile.
Osprey has also managed to build a solid pack that weighs in at a very small amount. The 65 liter has a total weight of 3 pounds 9 ounces. The comparable Gregory Baltoro 65 weighs in at 5 pounds 10 ounces. This shows how far pack design has come, and what Osprey has been able to do to shed weight on a pack of this capacity.
Other great features of this pack are the available pockets. There is the main compartment, but then also there are two pockets on the front that make getting to items that need to be accessible while on the trail super convenient. The top pocket is huge, and has a great security mesh pocket on the underside for storing keys, wallet and phone.
When you need to get your trekking poles out of the way, Osprey has included and awesome design that allows you to easily put your poles away without ever having to take you pack off. It's the little things that make Osprey a go to for me when I need a new pack.

All in all, this pack and series of packs are amazing. They don't have all of the little nick knack extras that some other manufacturers have, but I promise that you'll never take this pack off and want to toss it in the creek.
Just like with any other pack, make sure that you are fitting your pack properly. Measure your torso and buy your pack based on that, not your height.
